About the opportunity
Volunteer Plus is a project supporting those in the community who have a passion for volunteering but need additional support and empowerment to get started. Volunteer Plus supports individuals with a variety of additional needs such as Physical needs, mental health needs, learning needs, cultural needs etc. on a 1-to-1 basis to find, prepare for and undertake voluntary opportunities within the community. We are looking for volunteer to act as a suitability assessor for the mentor service. This role would focus on meeting with individuals who have referred themselves or been referred for the Volunteer Plus service and assessing against set criteria if they are suitable for and would benefit from the service. The role will consist of the following: - Meeting face-to-face with individuals and assessing their needs and the information submitted in the referral- Making notes about their interest and hopes for the programme- Making a decision using the information available to you whether the individual meets the criteria for their service and whether they will benefit from it. - Communicating this decision to the individual and staff and volunteers within the programme.Training will be providing and frameworks and documentation are already in place to support the assessment and decision making progress.
- Age restrictions
-Volunteers must be over 18. -Volunteers must attend the training session-An understanding of working with individuals with additional needs would be highly advantageous-There is no specific qualifications required for this role, however the ideal Volunteer should:- Enjoy talking and listening to people- Have a genuine interest in helping others- Be open minded, supportive and non-judgmental- Have some understanding of the voluntary sector or be willing to work towards an understanding - Be comfortable completing paperwork and taking notes.
