About the opportunity

The VAL Volunteering team supports people from all walks of life to access volunteering opportunities, by providing face to face information and signposting to local projects. We also work in partnership with charities and community groups across Leicester and Leicestershire to develop and promote their volunteering opportunities.

We are currently seeking an Admin Volunteer Co-ordinator with excellent communication and organisation skills who could help support some of our other volunteers with their tasks.

As part of this role, you will be asked to offer support and supervision to some of our administration volunteers and frontline volunteers:

  • Supporting  the identification of volunteer needs within the organisation
  • Supporting the development of suitable role descriptions
  • Supporting the selection and recruitment of volunteers and inductions
  • Helping to identify and set tasks for each individual volunteer
  • Holding regular supervision meetings with volunteers
  • Helping to coordinate the administration of VAL databases
  • Helping to identify and support training needs of other volunteers
  • Helping to coordinate the recognition and celebration of the contribution of volunteering to VAL and to the wider voluntary and community sector in Leicester and Leicestershire

The role will requires a significant amount of independent working and for you to take ownership of specific tasks, therefore we are looking for someone with previous experience in roles of a similar nature. In addition, this opportunity would suit someone with previous experience in administration and databases who could support the development of other volunteers in their roles. The role would also be the ideal opportunity for someone who would like to gain further experience in an office environment and within the voluntary and community sector (VCS).

  • We would like our volunteers to be able to commit between two to three days a week, with the hours to be agreed.
  • You would need to have some availability between the following days and times: Monday –   Thursday, 10.00am – 4.00 pm This will be discussed at interview

Support provided for you:

  • We will reimburse our volunteers for travel expenses and you can volunteer when you are available
  • Training will be provided on using VAL specific databases and processes
  • You will be offered support, supervision and guidance from our staff

Qualities and skills we are looking for:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Reliability
  • Flexibility - occasionally being available at short notice
  • A good command of written English, with the ability to use simple and clear language
  • The ability to distil important points from a general discussion and record them
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds and at all levels
  • A good understanding of and confidence in using Websites and Databases
  • Ability to work independently
  • Volunteers will need to be at least 18 years old for this role
  • Experience of working in a busy admin / reception office
  • Experience of using office equipment- telephone, photocopier, scanner, laminator etc.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office
  • A natural interest in helping all backgrounds
  • Experience in marketing
  • Good timekeeping skills
  • Experience of managing and recruiting volunteers
  • It would be useful for you to have some experience of voluntary and community sector organisations, whether it be with a charity or a community group in your local area
