About the opportunity
We are looking for volunteers who can facilitate weekly activity sessions for mums with young children across Leicester city. As part of the ‘Fun with Mum’ project, each group will meet on a weekly/regular basis to take part in informal and free/low-cost activity sessions, either in their local park, community centre or other public space. The activity sessions will encourage parents of young children to make the most of the time they have available by combining spending time with their children with taking part in physical activity and play.
Volunteers will receive training on how lead the group activities, and one-on-one supports from a VAL development officer to help set up, promote and maintain your group if needed. If you already have an existing group set up, and would like to upskill existing an existing volunteer or group leader, we would also like to hear from you.
Sessions will be flexible, but ideally take place on week day mornings and will be aimed at mums with children under school age. In order to encourage participation amongst those with limited funds sessions will be offered either free of charge or at a low cost in parts of the city that have ‘parks with play areas’ or child friendly open spaces. Sessions will last for 1 hour, however, group members will be encouraged to stay, play and socialise.
- Willing to take a DBS Check
We require someone who would be willing to undertake training and commit to organising and leading regular activity sessions for mums and children in your area. This volunteer position would be ideal for a female volunteer, with young children and an interest in increasing social and active opportunities for mums with young children.
No existing experience is necessary, but you should be organised, out-going and welcoming, encouraging other parents to take part. Voluntary Action Leicestershire will offer 1 on 1 support and will arrange role specific training. VAL will work with each volunteer to decide the best location for their sessions and help make any necessary arrangements. VAL will advertise the project, work with group leaders to market their sessions and sign-post potential participants to their nearest opportunity.
Depending on the needs of your group and preferred location, you may need to access to a car or public transport. We will need to be DBS checked and have safeguarding training, which VAL will provide if this is not in place. ........
