About the opportunity
Although the Covid-19 lockdown measures are slowly being lifted and we are moving back to more normality, VAL is continuing to work in partnership with local organisations to ensure people can stay safe and well in communities in Leicester and Leicestershire. We are looking to build up a pool of volunteers we could call on for any urgent requests for volunteer support for one-off or short term activities.
Tasks could include:
- Helping with leaflet drops
- Supporting mobile testing units
- Supporting local foodbanks
- Delivery of food and medication
- Short term befriending
However, these tasks will entirely depend on the need that arises, so we could contact you as urgent requests come through to see if you could potentially help.
By signing up to this role, you will be added to a list of emergency volunteers that we can contact as and when we receive urgent requests for volunteer support from local councils, health services and other partners. Please note you won’t be immediately mobilised as a volunteer, but we will contact you as and when you could be needed to see if you are able to help.
You will ideally be someone who enjoys working with other people you may not have met before, be keen to help in a crisis and be willing to be flexible to the continually changing situation..
As there could be needs across all of Leicester and Leicestershire, we will contact you about any urgent needs in your local area.
If you would be interested in offering your support, please apply through the VAL Volunteering website and we will ask for a few additional details.
- Age restrictions
As we will be aiming to prepare for future needs, we are looking for a range of different people with diverse skills and experience. As a result, we will be asking if you have a DBS check, access to your own vehicle and details of any previous volunteering experience to help us match the right volunteers to urgent requests for volunteer support.
