About the opportunity
We need volunteers to support the baby box project.
This project is about providing timely support and interventions for young parents.
The Baby Box project has been running for a number of years and was designed by young parents to support young parents-to-be.
Following a referral, young parents-to-be are visited during their pregnancy and gifted a box full of things they’ll need when their baby arrives. They are also offered support and onward referral to enable them to give their baby the best start in life.
Leicestershire Children & Family Wellbeing Service (CFWS) have now taken over delivery of the Baby Box project.
On receipt of a referral from Midwifery Services, the Children and Family Well-being Service will be making contact with young parents-to-be. A Family Well-being Worker (FWW) will be offering young parents-to-be a home visit and delivery of a baby box. The baby box consists of lots of lovely kit that new parents need including a baby mattress, nappies, wipes, muslins and books from young parents sharing their experiences. This visit will be key in terms of early engagement of young parents into support from CFWS into our 0-2 pathway and other, targeted, young parent’s support.
Volunteers are required to attend the initial visit with the FWW and then to provide some hand-holding support to enable parents to access the CFWS offer. This might involve subsequent calls or visits to young parents and/or the coordination of activities for young parents to attend e.g. a session to do hand and foot prints with their new babies. We anticipate contact to be from 1/2 contacts up to a maximum of 10.
