About the opportunity
Would you like to become an Academy Trustee?
Ash Field Academy is a special school for 160 pupils aged from 4-19, all of whom have a main presenting physical disability, often with complex medical needs, in addition to one or more needs of a sensory, communication and learning nature. Ash Field has pupils who are confident, positive and are a pleasure to teach and a dedicated, professional and talented staff team and Senior and Wider Leadership Team; and supportive and collaborative Governors. The school is proud of the ‘excellent spirit’ (Ofsted) of its pupils and of all their achievements, and is an Outstanding school (Ofsted). Ash Field is a single academy trust and is also a Teaching School with a proven track record as an outward facing centre of excellence.
Becoming a school trustee is a rewarding and challenging role and will allow you the opportunity to use your skills and attributes to have a positive impact on the education of all pupils in our school. Trustees work closely together and play a vital role in the strategic direction of the school, working with the Principal and other members of the senior leadership team to ensure that each of our pupils can reach their potential. You will be able to develop and learn new skills in a board-level environment, take on different challenges and work as part of an established and successful Trustee Board.
Trustees need not be experts in the field of education. What they do need is an interest in the school and the welfare of its pupils, together with the time, energy and willingness to get involved.
In addition to the statutory duties of trustees, we would like to ask for your time and your commitment. Being a trustee is an unpaid position but it is an incredibly worthwhile role and is valued and appreciated by the school, its staff, the pupils and other stakeholders, such as parents and the wider community. There is certainly much reward in assisting the school deliver a high quality education to pupils and in promoting their welfare.
The commitment we expect involves attendance at 6 Trustee Board meetings plus a visit each term (3 per year) to the school to explore specific issues and report back to fellow trustees. We also like to offer the opportunity to Trustees to attend school events on occasion, such as a school assembly or performance.
If you are interested in becoming a trustee and would like further information please contact Jenny Bone, Principal (email@example.com) or Kathy Inskip, Chair of Trustees (firstname.lastname@example.org) at the Academy
