Volunteers’ Week runs from 1-7 June 2019 is a time to say thank you for the amazing contribution that volunteers make. During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, giving organisations and local communities the chance to say thank you to people who give their time to support good causes.

New Community Engagement Worker increases opportunities with Hospice Hope

Following a successful bid made to the National Lottery Community Fund, Hospice Hope have recruited a new Community Engagement Worker.   Liz Waters will be working around North West Leicestershire, engaging with the local community and raising the profile of the charity.  This has created an exciting volunteering opportunity and we would love to hear from anybody who would like to get involved with this project and work with Liz to support our services.


Would you like to help adults learn to read?

Read Easy Group in Leicester are looking for local people to volunteer as Pioneers to establish a Read Easy Group in Leicester.

Pioneers make connections to local groups and agencies to help identify readers and spread the word, so that other people in the community become interested in supporting the new group. Learning to read is life changing for adults.

To mark Volunteers' Week 2019, we are organising a Volunteer Breakfast Celebration Event on Tuesday 4th June at the Brite Centre in Leicester.

Relaunch of VAL's Volunteering Network

VAL relaunched the Volunteering Network meeting for volunteer managers on Thursday 14 February, bringing together more than 30 attendees for information updates, presentations, a workshop discussion around volunteering research and general networking.

Dave Cliffe from VAL gave an overview on the changes to VAL's Sector Support services and the work around volunteering, followed by some update on the VAL Volunteering website from Carolyn Newman from VAL. Ths was followed up with presentations from Leicester College and Royal Voluntary Service.

Upcoming Small Volunteering Fair at Westcote Library in Leicester

VAL is working with Westcotes Library and a small number of volunteer involving organisations to hold a small volunteering fair event at Westcotes Library on Tuesday 19th March at 11am-2pm.

The event will be free to attend and you can drop in at any time between 11am-2pm to speak to some local voluntary organisations about their volunteer opportunities.

Venue: Westcotes Library, Narborough Road, Leicester. LE3 0BQ

Organisations in attendance will include VAL, Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), Alzheimer's Society and Vista.

Feeding the 5000 Leicester

Feeding the 5000 Leicester is a one-day food festival designed to educate the public on the problem of food waste, elevate the conversation around food and sustainability policy, and celebrate the easy, fun and tasty solutions that exist to tackle this global problem.
