Volunteer Recruitment Fair - 28th September 2019 from 10am to 2pm at LOROS Professional Development Centre, LOROS Hospice, Groby Road, Leicester. LE3 9QE.

 There are volunteering opportunities in many areas of LOROS including the various shops, warehouses, lotteries, fundraising and in the Hospice itself. You will be able to get first hand information from the volunteering team and managers from various departments. Support will be provided to help you complete the application form.


Volunteering with Living Without Abuse

Volunteering with Living Without Abuse can be a very rewarding experience and you will gain many useful personal and professional skills, as well as making a huge and positive difference to victims of domestic and sexual violence. LWA work together with Women’s Aid and Freeva to form United Against Violence and Abuse (UAVA) we deliver domestic abuse and sexual violence support for survivors across Leicester Leicestershire and Rutland.

Diabetes Week - 10-16 June 2019

Diabetes Week is an annual week to raise awareness of diabetes and funds to support their work. This year, Diabetes Week takes place from 10 to 16 June and we're increasing the public's understanding of diabetes. This will help tackle the stigma many people with all types of diabetes feel.

Leicester City Council (Walking & Cycling Team) - Walk Leader volunteers

Do you enjoy walking and exploring Leicester? Do you also want to encourage more people to get out on foot and be more active? Then this volunteer opportunity could be for you! We are looking for new people to join our team of Walk Volunteers who lead short walks in Leicester for the general public. We are especially need people who can help this summer at evening walks (6-7pm) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and/or help at daytime walks on occasional weekends. We also have some walks taking place during daytime on weekdays. All our volunteers receive training.

New Community Engagement Worker increases opportunities with Hospice Hope

Following a successful bid made to the National Lottery Community Fund, Hospice Hope have recruited a new Community Engagement Worker.   Liz Waters will be working around North West Leicestershire, engaging with the local community and raising the profile of the charity.  This has created an exciting volunteering opportunity and we would love to hear from anybody who would like to get involved with this project and work with Liz to support our services.


Would you like to help adults learn to read?

Read Easy Group in Leicester are looking for local people to volunteer as Pioneers to establish a Read Easy Group in Leicester.

Pioneers make connections to local groups and agencies to help identify readers and spread the word, so that other people in the community become interested in supporting the new group. Learning to read is life changing for adults.

Relaunch of VAL's Volunteering Network

VAL relaunched the Volunteering Network meeting for volunteer managers on Thursday 14 February, bringing together more than 30 attendees for information updates, presentations, a workshop discussion around volunteering research and general networking.

Dave Cliffe from VAL gave an overview on the changes to VAL's Sector Support services and the work around volunteering, followed by some update on the VAL Volunteering website from Carolyn Newman from VAL. Ths was followed up with presentations from Leicester College and Royal Voluntary Service.
