FareShare Leicester is the leading charity of its kind in the East Midlands and is an important part of FareShare UK. Our work is recognised locally, nationally and internationally – and we've recently won a clutch of prestigious awards (including receiving the 2017 Third Sector Charity of the Year accolade).
We distribute surplus food to charities and community groups across the region, providing a lifeline to over many thousands of people living in the community. In 2018, we provided just under 2 million meals to people living in Leicestershire and the wider East Midlands and saved 827 tonnes of food from waste. We supported 242 charities and community groups and helped feed 18,610 people every week.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation. And we are lucky to work with some wonderful people who give their time freely in a bid to help the communities they are a part of.
We have opportunities at our Regional Centres in Narborough and South Wigston for volunteer drivers, drivers' assistants, warehouse personnel (sorters and order pickers) and administrators. We are very happy to work with those wishing to gain more skills ready for work or, for people looking for something extremely valuable to do with their spare time. We provide a safe and enjoyable place to volunteer and make a real difference to so many lives.
We believe food is a basic human right and all of our volunteers contribute towards our mission of getting good food to as many people in our communities who need it.
And, as our most Volunteer Survey has demonstrated, our volunteers love being part of the FareShare East Midlands family.
