About this role

VASL’s Community Champions is looking for caring people over the age of 18 to volunteer their time and skills, to help isolated or lonely people (over 60 who live in the Harborough District) reconnect with their local community, discover new opportunities and achieve their personal goals, with your support, encouragement and companionship.

Telephone Champions ring lonely or isolated people regularly to provide social contact and pass on information about community activities that may be of interest.

 

Your role will involve:

 

    • Making weekly or fortnightly phone calls (at an agreed time to suit both parties) to offer a listening ear and social contact

 

    • Keeping a log of phone calls and brief details of conversation

 

    • Liaising with/providing weekly feedback to the Community Champions Project Team

 

    • Attending Volunteer training (approx. 6 hours) and following Safeguarding procedure

Requirements

  • References needed

Skills required:

Good telephone manner

Ability to listen as well as talk

Demonstrates empathy

Calm manner

Reliable

Non-judgemental

Organised and can record key points of telephone conversations

Reports back to Project Team accurately and regularly

Enjoys learning
