Shop Lead Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to take a lead role in our charity shop in Kibworth

About the opportunity

The Well is an independent charity based in the heart of Kibworth, consisting of a cafe, charity shop and quiet/ prayer room space. Founded on Christian principles, The Well aims to be a hub for the local community - in particular to offer support and advice to those most in need.

We are looking for enthusiatic, experienced people to volunteer with us as 'Shop Leads' in our charity shop space. Successful volunteers will be asked to lead a shift in the shop to allow management to develop other areas of work in The Well.

As part of this role, you would be asked to serve customers, prepare refreshments and supervise other volunteers within the shop. This will involve helping to sort through donations, preparing displays and using the till. A large part of the role will also involve shepherding adults with additional needs and training would be provided for this as required.

Our shop is a very sociable environment, so you would also find yourself chatting to regular customers and other volunteers about their days and life experience to help make everyone feel welcome and comfortable.

We would ask Shop Leads to be available for at least one shift a week, which would usually be for four hours per shift. We may also contact you to take on additional shifts occassionally when managers or other Shop Leads are on leave.

We are particularly looking for volunteers who enjoy talking and listening to people in the community and sharing life experiences. As the Well is a busy space, we are particulalrly looking for volunteers who would be comfortable being in a sociable atmosphere.

Other key skills we are looking for include experience of working as part of a team and taking a lead role to supervise and mentor others. In addition, we are looking for people who can remain patient and kind with fellow volunteers, trustees, managers and customers - particularly those with additional needs and/ or vulnerabilities.

Volunteers that have an awareness of Health and Safety issues and being able to communicate these to others would be very useful, but we can provide training and support on these points.

Whilst we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and with different beliefs, we would ask that you empathise with the Christian values and mission statement of the charity.
