About this role
Our volunteers offer emotional support and practical help to parents to help them to give their children the best possible start in life. Often, families we support are struggling with issues such as relationship break ups, ill health, domestic violence, disabilities , mental health issues and depression. Many parents just feel completely isolated and have little self-confidence in their abilities to be a good Mum or Dad. Our volunteers help to build self confidence and esteem, they listen, they help parents to go to local groups and build up links within their communities, they support parents to find the solutions to their own issues. We do this by running peer support groups, stay and play groups and by visiting families in their own homes.
We are looking for volunteers who have parenting experience and 2-3 hours per week to spare to befriend a family and support them at home. This might be practical help, like form filling, helping them get to appointments, finding playgroups or schools – or it might be emotional support, listening is a big part of what our volunteers do.
We are also looking for volunteers to help families become more active together, to improve family health and well being.
